Chromic Catgut

Chromic Catgut

Product Overview:

A sterile, absorbable surgical suture made from chromic catgut. Available with Round (Atraumatic) and Cutting needle types in USP sizes (0), (1), (2/0), and (3/0). Packed 12 pcs per box. Used for soft tissue approximation and ligation in general surgery, gynaecology, and urology. The chromic treatment extends absorption time compared to plain catgut.

Precautions

  • For soft tissue approximation, ligation, and wound closure in general surgery, gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, and obstetrics where an absorbable suture is required.

  • Primary Packaging

Individually packed in sterile foil pouch (1 pc per pouch)

  • Secondary Packaging

    12 pcs per Printed Box

  • Tertiary Packaging

    Export Shipper Carton

  • Rounded (Atraumatic)

    (0) Round Needle, (1) Round Needle, (2/0) Round Needle, (3/0) Round Needle

  • Cutting

    (0) Cutting Needle, (1) Cutting Needle, (2/0) Cutting Needle, (3/0) Cutting Needle

  • Absorbable surgical suture; natural collagen-based material derived from submucosa of sheep intestine; treated with chromic salts to delay absorption

  • Chromic salt treatment crosslinks the collagen fibres to slow enzymatic degradation; extends tensile strength retention to 10-21 days in vivo; complete absorption within 90 days

  • Chromic Catgut; natural collagen; brown/tan colour; twisted or braided construction

  • Round (Atraumatic) Needle

Half-circle or 3/8 circle round-bodied needle; splits tissue rather than cutting; ideal for soft, easily penetrable tissues such as intestine, peritoneum, and subcutaneous layers

  • Cutting Needle

Reverse cutting or conventional cutting needle; ideal for tough, hard-to-penetrate tissues such as skin, fascia, and tendon

  • (3/0), (2/0), (1), (0); size (3/0) is finer for delicate tissues; size (0) and (1) are heavier for stronger tissue layers

  • Approximately 70 cm per suture strand; standard length for most surgical applications

  • Sterile – sterilized by Gamma radiation or EO; individually packed in sterile foil pouch containing isopropyl alcohol moistening solution; for single use only

  • 5 years from date of manufacture

  • Store at room temperature (15-30°C); protect from direct sunlight, heat, and freezing; do not use if packaging seal is broken or damaged

  • CE Marked; complies with USP/EP standards for absorbable surgical sutures; marketed by Fugen Healthcare Ltd., United Kingdom

  • Natural absorbable material – no suture removal required; chromic treatment for extended tensile strength; available in round and cutting needle types for versatile tissue applications

  • For single use only; do not re-use or re-sterilize; use appropriate suture size and needle type for the tissue; discard if packaging is damaged; handle with care to avoid kinking or fraying; dispose as per medical waste guidelines

Reason of use

Soft Tissue Approximation & Wound Closure

Used for the closure and approximation of soft tissues in general surgery, gynaecology, urology, and orthopaedic procedures. The chromic treatment delays absorption, maintaining tensile strength for 10-21 days, suitable for tissues requiring extended healing support.

Internal Ligation & Haemostasis

Used for ligation of blood vessels and pedicles during surgical procedures to achieve haemostasis. The natural absorbable material eliminates the need for suture removal and is gradually replaced by body tissue as healing progresses.

Gynaecological & Obstetric Procedures

Widely used in episiotomy repair, hysterectomy, and other gynaecological and obstetric surgical procedures where an absorbable suture is required for internal tissue layers that cannot be easily accessed for suture removal post-operatively.
